About Parc

G4S Care & Justice Services played a leading role in the development of this innovative project and has a 25-year operating contract to manage the prison on behalf of HM Prison Service. The prison accommodates 1038 convicted male adult prisoners and remand / convicted young offenders and young people in a secure but modern environment.

The innovative design of the prison means that natural light is maximised throughout, and the residential areas feel open and spacious.  All prisoners are encouraged to take responsibility for their own residential areas in order to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all.

We provide a progressive environment dedicated to reducing re-offending, and enabling individuals to fulfil their potential back in their local community.  In addition we provide a range of offending behaviour and substance misuse programmes, which enable offenders to tackle the causes of their criminal behaviour.

The safety and security of the public, staff and offenders is of paramount importance in our facilities. We encourage an atmosphere of decency and humanity, which creates a relaxed yet controlled environment with a high level of positive engagement between staff and offenders.

The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible and reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and causes of prison stress are minimised.

Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect. G4S staff builds positive and supportive relationships with prisoners in their care. We create a constructive regime through provision of suitable education and work programmes. We actively encourage prisoners to address the causes of their offending. This is achieved by the provision of a range of Offending Behaviour Programmes, active sentence planning procedures and by providing appropriate employment and training opportunities.

We provide an environment which is modelled on the terms, conditions, practices and standards both offered and expected by industrial employers. We give prisoners real work experience which reflects the ethics required in business. G4S provides opportunities for prisoners to gain national vocational qualifications that assist them to find work on their release.
